It's finished! Well, the piecing of it is, anyway. I discovered that one of the first "rules" of quilting is to work on a completely different project while you're in the middle of the one you've already started. :P So, the arcs of my double wedding ring pattern are sitting half-done on the sewing table while I work on this, the autumnal design of four seasonal wall-hangings made from this Carpenter's Star pattern. It's better in person, I promise...
I think the fabrics I chose might not be the best to view from a distance - as this photo shows - but I'm learning. I'll try to make a winter one of delicious blues next! But first to quilt and bind this one.
I have four options: 1) quilt it by hand, 2) buy that walking foot that I really REALLY want for my Bernina ['twould make bibs and quilts so much easier!] but have thus far put off because it costs a lot more than I usually am accustomed to pay for sewing tools - and I thought I had no limit!! Ahem...where was I? Oh yes - 3) have my local quilt shop Quilt Lizzy do an overall pattern, or 4) have Bethany do a custom design.
For the curious, it is made from a pattern by Karen Combs called Carpenter's Color Wheel. I had to modify the dimensions, partly because I didn't wish it to end up 48'' x 48'', partly because I was stingy in the quilt shop with my cuts of fabric and when all was washed, ironed, and starched there wasn't enough. So it was even smaller. But this is what I originally wanted - it'll end up being about 26'' x 26''. Caution if you use the pattern: two of the sets of half square triangles are incorrectly numbered - I had to rip out and resew eight triangle squares to get the amount for completing the pattern as you see it.
I hope I can eventually make one for each season - I've already got my eye on some of Quilt Lizzy's fabric for it.
