As I was dressing this morning, I happened to look out at a most interesting sight:
This black snake was carefully climbing the corner of the old house next to ours, using a dead vine, random loosened nails, and the space between the stucco and siding. Clever! 
I still don't particularly like handling snakes, but I'm not afraid of them and rather like that there are so many black snakes around here. If there's a good population of black snakes, there aren't as many rodents - or copperhead snakes, for that matter!
