I remember reading on several of the spica cast blogs: you won't be able to keep it 100% clean and smelling nice. And I - perfectionist that I am - bridled at the challenge and I thought to myself, "I can sure try!" Ha. Ha. I'm telling you, on this day, three weeks in, two weeks to go: there is no way to keep it 100% clean or smelling nice. It pretty much smells awful right now. And it's dry. Heaven forbid it gets wet again....imagine a pee-soaked-wet-dog-with-a-hint-of-dumpster sort of smell. Well, as I said, two weeks until FREEDOM.
I will be so glad to be done with the complicated system of diapers, sanitary pads, moleskin, and duct tape. I really did figure it out, though, because he had his first liquid poo last week and but for a tiny smudge that leaking all the way up to the top front of his inner diaper, all of it was contained or caught on sanitary pads tucked around (which were then exchanged for clean ones - voila!) But it is a conniption and a half to get all of it in place, and I shall rejoice to change a normal toddler's bum, sans bulky, unavoidably stinky cast. We might even start potty training again! Something to look forward to. :D
Thank you so much, you who have been praying for us. It means so much to us! Zach's bone is healing fast, he has adjusted well to his temporary handicap, and we have been blessed with so much grace to carry this burden (literally!) God is good.
