Warm Hearts and the Bitter Cold: The Adventures of a Tuesday

So, this morning began with waking up my sleepy Steward and beginning to cook the pancake breakfast he'd requested the night before. I discovered I was missing an egg. But, as the household began to stir - for one of his good friends is here to visit - it was discovered that there was a general shortage of hot water. Now, being that it was 15 degrees last night, it turned out that the pipe had not only froze, but also busted. So, in the midst of cooking breakfast, JP went up to the big house, brought me back eggs, and went with Tootle to reconnoiter and assess the situation under the house. Eventually, there was Ferret, BJ, Tootle, and The Steward all eating pancakes, eggs, and bacon in my kitchen.

It's hasn't gotten above freezing today and the wind makes everything bitter cold - JP and Tootle are still out there (and will be until dark or later!) getting everything fixed and winterized. Ma heated up leftovers for lunch, and I'm fixing dinner: beef stew, green beans (or perhaps butter beans?), biscuits with hot blueberry sauce, and a coconut pie for dessert. I hope that will be a satisfactory reward for spending the day out in this bone-chilling weather!

I went to my first prenatal doctors appointment yesterday, and they said they tried to find something wrong with me or the baby and couldn't find a single thing - that baby and I are as healthy as can be! He* was measured to be 24.4 mm long, confirming my due date as July 21st.

*[A note: since the child's gender is unknown, I shall hitherto refer to him as "him" because that is the proper English gender for an unspecified person. Being that the little one is very much a human being and known to the Lord, but as yet "unspecified" in specific gender to us - I shall go with what I've been taught and call him "him" because "he" is from "man"kind. There is no "it." That is a monstrous stripping of the distinction of gender roles by the feminist movement, and I will take no part in it. If, by God's wondrous grace "he" is a "she" - well, then she shall have to pardon her mother's proper grammar and not be offended when she reads these writings when she is grown.]

I got cold reading that post! :) I'm so glad you've started blogging again, because I can see your life from your point of view, and Mary's both! :) ~Rachel

Is it more "proper" to use the metric system? 24.4 mm? As in 2.44 cm? As in ~0.96 inches? Did you have an ultrasound?

Jenn - I dunno... the doctor said "millimeters" so that's what I said. :P And yes, I had an ultrasound. That's how he knew how long he was! :D

I'm glad I started the blog, too. It gives me somewhere to write down little stories that I'd like to record somewhere!
