I was finishing up my breakfast this morning, when I happened to glance at my thus-far untouched coffee and noticed a fascinating display, a forgotten ballet, right there in my cup. It was entrancing to watch: the smooth rolling waves, and slender twists, the soft quieting then sudden, exquisite motion of vapor. It dawned on me that this wasn’t merely a cup of coffee with some pretty steam-patterns; it was another delightful, gracious demonstration of Jesus’ beauty and majesty. Paul wasn’t kidding in his letter to the Colossians:
“For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (1:16-17)
Even something so small as the steam on a Saturday morning cup of coffee was designed by Him and dances before my astounded eyes because of Him. What beauty revealed! How glorious is my Lord!
